Current Kyokushin Karate, In Brief
The kyokushin style stresses
superior and practical techniques. Students learn foot movement,
correct blocking procedures, practical kicking and striking
techniques, as well as traditional kata (forms). We use 50% feet and
50% hands in our system. The kyokushin system, under the name of the
International Karate Organization (IKO) at the time of Mas. Oyama's
death was the largest martial arts organization under one man in the
world, claiming up to 10 million members. Since M. Oyama's death in
1993, the IKO has splintered into several different groups, each
claiming to be the true successor of Mas. Oyama. Our dojo, the Senshi
Nokkiru Dojo, affiliates itself with IKO #7, a US based group not
concerned about politics but instead focussed on training and
learning.
